WOOL VS Synthetics – which baselayer to choose for YOUR training?

There are pros and cons for both. What you need to take in to consideration is the intensity of your training, the temperature you are doing your sessions in and the duration of your workouts. You may be surprised that we recommend wool the whole year around for many of your training sessions

WHEN TO USE WOOL

Nature has served us with the ultimate training partner, WOOL. Many athletes prefer wool-based apparel during their training whole year around in all kinds of weather conditions. During your long distance runs in chilly and fresh spring air, the benefits of wool make you focus 100% on your training.

WOOL VS SYNTHETIC FIBERS

Wool is nature’s own perfected high-performance fabric. It absorbs moisture, -leaving your skin feel dry and comfortable, no matter how much you push your body. Wool is superior to any other material as wool fibers adapt to their surroundings, keeping you warm or cool depending on the conditions.

Wool also resists the build-up of odor molecules, eliminating the need to add skin- and nature-damaging antibacterial substances to achieve that “fresh for longer” feeling. Due to the protein molecules in its fibers, wool is both able to avoid trapping odor and break down odor forming bacteria.

Dæhlie Sportswear believe in long lasting quality and extended lifetime for your favorite training gear. We found the right blend of wool and synthetic fiber to extend the durability of our wool products. Wool is also biodegradable and renewable. It requires less frequent washing than other fabrics and makes it a good choice for our planet.

NATURAL FIBERS

Wool is one of nature's most advanced materials, fit for high performance and hard work. Maximum technical qualities paired with high sustainability. Wool is both biodegradable and renewable. It requires less frequent washing than other fabrics.

THERMOREGULATION

DÆHLIE Sportswear has developed the ultimate wool-wear for every season. When it comes to regulating your body temperature, wool is superior to any other material as wool fibers adapt to their surroundings, keeping you warm or cool depending on the conditions.

MOISTURE TRANSPORT

Wool fibers have the ability to absorb an impressive amount of moisture, be it water or sweat, and then allow it to evaporate. This unique moisture transportation system makes wet wool garments more comfortable than garments made from other fibers. It’s breathable and it keeps you warm and comfortable even when the garment is wet.

AVOID TRAPPING ODOR

Remarkably, wool also resists the build-up of odor molecules, eliminating the need to add skin- and nature-damaging antibacterial substances to achieve that “fresh for longer” feeling. Due to the protein molecules in its fibers, wool is both able to avoid trapping odor and break down odor forming bacteria. This makes wool an ideal material for base layers and underwear.

WHEN TO USE BASELAYERS

Baselayers are most often made of synthetic materials. We use polyester. Polyester made products is light weighted and feels soft to your skin. Synthetic baselayers have good moisture-wicking properties that will move sweat away from your body, to the outside of the garment where it can evaporate. Synthetic fibers don’t absorb water and therefore dries fast. Use of synthetic materials make the products very durable, keeps their shape and will be a good choise when long lasting is your focus.

When finishing up after a hard training session your baselayer may still be weat and cold. We therefore see synthetic a preferred fabric for high intensity training and for your intervals when you have the option to change quickly right after.
