Materials
Material choices largely determine performance, lifespan, and much of a product’s environmental impact.
We apply strict standards to sourcing, traceability, chemical safety, and durability, balancing what performs best in use with what lasts season after season. Every material decision is made with intent to ensure the best possible outcome in our final products.
bluesign® APPROVED
Dæhlie is a bluesign system partner. Bluesign system partner companies are responsibly acting parties of the textile value chain committed to applying the bluesign system. They aim to continuously improve their environmental performance and are focused on a sustainable future.
Bluesign system partners are committed to applying the bluesign system which unites the entire textile supply chain to jointly reduce its impact on people and the environment. The Input Stream Management ensures that bluesign® APPROVED chemical products and raw materials are used in all steps of the manufacturing process. Substances posing risks to people and the environment are hence eliminated from the very beginning.
On-site inspections verify the proper application of such chemical products and raw materials in controlled processes and ensure the responsible use of resources. As of 2025, one third of our products will be made with at least 50% bluesign® APPROVED materials.

Raw materials
Focused on function and committed to Responsibility. Making technical performance products means we are utilizing synthetic materials to a large extent. Since the largest environmental impact for our synthetic materials are linked to material manufacturing we are always prioritizing bluesign® APPROVED fabrics.
At Dæhlie, our approach to materials is built on performance, durability, and responsibility. Every fabric choice we make is guided by what performs in use – and what matters in the long term. Below are the core materials we rely on, and the standards we uphold to ensure they meet the demands of both athletes and the environment.
Explore more details about our materials below.
Polyester & Recycled Polyester
Polyester is a versatile and durable fiber with excellent moisture-wicking and weather-resistant properties, making it well-suited for high-output training and outerwear. While conventional polyester is derived from fossil fuels, we also use recycled alternatives, including fibers made from post-consumer PET, such as plastic bottles, in our products.
All recycled polyester used in our products is certified, primarily through the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), and requires less energy to produce compared to virgin polyester – reducing our dependency on crude oil. The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) ensures the material and suppliers are meeting comprehensive criteria for recycled content, environmental and social responsibility.
Polyamide & Recycled Polyamide
Known for its strength and resilience, polyamide (nylon) is used in products that must withstand repeated friction and exposure – such as pants and protective layers It is a highly durable fabric that offers superior strength, making it well-suited for hard-wear products.
Although the recycling infrastructure for nylon is still developing, we expect supply and demand to grow steadily. Virgin nylon has a higher environmental footprint than polyester, but recycled nylon significantly reduces this impact – approaching the footprint of recycled polyester.
Lyocell TENCEL™
We use TENCEL™ Lyocell from Lenzing – a cellulose-based fiber derived from wood pulp harvested in sustainably managed forests. Lyocell is manufactured in a closed-loop process, where water and solvents are recovered and reused, minimizing environmental impact. The result is a breathable, soft, and responsibly made fiber ideal for comfort-focused layers.
Merino Wool
We use fine merino wool from New Zealand and Australia to achieve softness and temperature regulation in our wool garments. All wool in our supply chain is certified non-mulesing – a practice we have taken a firm stand against. We only work with controlled sources that meet the following certifications:
· IWTO certificate: Secure that all partial shipments of wool, come from non-mulesing wool.
· Certificate of Origin: Guarantees that all shipments of wool come from the certified non-mulesing wool suppliers in the actual production country.
· Wool Spinning Certificate: Confirms that all garments produced by Dæhlie production partners, are based on non-mulesing wool.
Dæhlie has taken an active stand against mulesing and expect that this practice in raw material production soon will be history. Dæhlie is RWS Certified through Active Brands.
Down
Down insulation offers exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio, making it ideal for high-performance jackets and midlayers. We use only Responsible Down Standard (RDS)-certified down, which guarantees traceability and protects animal welfare by prohibiting practices like live-plucking.
The RDS upholds the five freedoms for animals, as stated by the World Organization for Animal Health, including access to food, freedom from pain and fear, and the ability to express natural behaviors.
Cotton
Cotton is a naturally sourced vegetable fiber that is ideal for producing comfortable, close-to-skin casual wear. A significant share is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified.
Cotton plays a smaller role in our fiber mix but remains important for selected casual and comfort-focused garments. Where used, we take steps to ensure all cotton is sourced through our policy. All non-certified cotton must be traceable through verified supplier declarations, with use restricted to approved regions.

Chemical Management
Chemical control is fundamental to worker safety, environmental protection, and product integrity. All suppliers must comply with our Chemical Compliance Agreement, including REACH (EU), the Stockholm Convention, the Biocidal Products Regulation, and relevant U.S. regulations (e.g., Prop 65, Safer Clothes and Textiles Act), as well as our Restricted Substance List (RSL).
We prioritize bluesign® APPROVED and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 materials. Non-certified inputs enter a 24-month testing cycle. We have prohibited antibacterial/biocidal treatments for over a decade and completed our PFAS/PFC phase-out – all collections are PFAS-free.
Water Responsibility
Water is essential throughout textile manufacturing. While water use varies by material, Dæhlie’s limited reliance on cotton means our main risks occur in the dyeing and finishing of synthetic materials. These stages require water for dyeing, cooling, and cleaning, and can contribute to local scarcity or pollution if not managed properly.
We work closely with our nominated material suppliers to ensure efficient and responsible water management. This includes optimizing water use, ensuring proper wastewater treatment, and maintaining sound chemical management systems.
We prioritize bluesign® APPROVED manufacturers, who are required to measure, manage, and reduce water use and wastewater impact while safeguarding chemical safety. This partnership approach supports our commitment to minimizing environmental impact across the supply chain.
Packaging
Packaging protects products during transport, handling, and retail presentation, but it also generates waste. Our goal is to reduce packaging’s environmental footprint through design efficiency, recyclability, and material choice.
We minimize unnecessary components, eliminate empty space, and prioritize materials with lower environmental impact. Since 2019, Active Brands has been a member of Norway’s Plastic Pledge (Plastløftet), committing to reduce plastic use, increase recycled plastic content, and ensure all packaging is designed for recycling.
