The latest climate science from the IPCC - described by the UN as “code red for humanity” – shows it is still possible to limit global temperature rise to 1.5C°, but we are dangerously close to that threshold. We are facing the largest challenge for humanity up to date and at Dæhlie we are committed to do our part when it comes to combating climate change.
We have set a target to reach net-zero Green House Gas emissions across our value chain by latest 2050, guided by Science Based Targets where our parent company Active Brands has an approved net-zero target.
We are going after to reach net-zero in own operations by latest 2025 and a 60% reduction of Green House Gas emissions per product by 2030. Our net-zero target means we acknowledge a zero emission textile industry might never be possible, but we are going to cut at least 90% of our emissions before claiming net-zero, in-line with the Science Based Target initiative’s methodology.
Since the largest part of our footprint is linked to the materials we use it’s also here we are putting the greatest effort to lower our impact. Key actions include:
·
Transferring to low impact raw materials, including recycled and regenerative materials·
Phase out coal in material manufacturing and collaborate with our suppliers to adopt clean energy·
Joint actions with suppliers, experts and peer-companies to introduce renewable energy and increase energy effeciency among our suppliers·
Adopt new business models enabling prolonging the life time of our products by several ownerships of the same product.STICA
With 99% of our emissions generated outside our direct control, we rely heavily on our business partners to implement the necessary changes and improvements to achieve our climate target. We believe that close collaboration with our key business partners is crucial to empower, challenge, and learn from each other about how we can best address the challenges ahead. We also recognize that collaboration with peer companies is valuable and necessary. That's why in 2021, we joined the Swedish Textile Initiative for Climate Action (STICA)via our parent company Active Brands, a network of over 50 members from the textile industry who collaborate on a broad spectrum of topics related to climate action. Through STICA, we share knowledge, encourage each other, and develop common approaches towards our shared suppliers and shared goals to limit global warming. The network's overall goal is to align the textile industry with a 1.5C° pathway, and we are committed to working towards this goal alongside our peers and partners
